Thank you for reading my first blog post! Here we go!

Bears defeat the Giants 24-20

This past Sunday the Chicago Bears defeated the New York Giants in Chicago, thanks to a late-game resurgence and Caleb Williams' heroics. There is a lot to unpack in this game, and it truly was an UGLY one to watch. The defense looked rough to say the least, and the offense was stagnant until the fourth quarter (when it mattered), yet the Bears still prevailed in the snow at Soldier Field and showed that they are the better team!

GOOD, BETTER, BEST!

GOOD: The "Bend, Don't Break" Dennis Allen defense.

This defense is frustrating and confusing most of the time. They can't tackle well, they can't pass cover, and pressure is non-existent from a four-man rush, but Goddamn when it comes down to it, they make some vital stops. The Giants went just 1/4 on touchdowns in redzone trips this Sunday at Soldier Field and were held to field goals on multiple occasions. When the game was on the line and the Bears needed a stop following a 2-yard Rome Odunze touchdown, there wasn't a shot in hell for the Giants. CJ Gardner-Johnson has proven to be a masterclass of a signing by GM Ryan Poles, recording 3.0 sacks as a DB in his first 2 games with the team including a huge sack on the Giant's final drive to ice the game. With the Bears going into a difficult chunk of the schedule, this defense needs to continue to hold up when we need it most.

BETTER: Rome Odunze

Following a week in which Odunze had zero receptions despite over 500 yards of total team offense, he was the focal point of the passing game in this win. He notched 6 receptions for 86 yards, and a vital 2-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Rome was involved from the jump with a reception on the game's first play after his father's criticism of his involvement last week against Cincinnati. He ran excellent routes and was consistently open down field showing exactly why he is the focal point of this passing attack.

BEST: The IceMan: Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams is the quarterback of the future! When it came down to crunch time, Caleb showed why he was the Number 1 Pick, The Heisman Winner, and the most talented quarterback in Chicago Bears history: because he's better than you and he knows it.

Ben Johnson said it best, "This guy has ice in his veins." He's absolutely cold and when the game got difficult, he got going. Caleb was pressured all day long and didn't take a single sack the entire game, showing off his Superman-style evasion skills and running ability. He had an insane throw to Colston Loveland on his first touchdown drive in the fourth quarter and finished the drive with a 26-yard scramble to set up the Odunze touchdown. The next drive went 53 yards in 4 plays, capped off by a 17-yard Caleb rushing touchdown. Miraculous!

Think Positive

This was a game in which we saw the rookies excel, starting off the game with a Kyle Monangai touchdown. Colston Loveland had another strong performance both as a receiving threat and run blocker, notching 4 receptions for 55 yards. Luther Burden III is the best route-runner on this team with 3 receptions for 51 yards. and had an integral reception to extend the drive in the fourth quarter. We also saw strong play from second-year edge rusher Austin Booker who was in the mix on Jaxson Dart's lone turnover of the game.

D'Andre Swift had a productive return to action with 80 yards on the ground in cold Bear weather.

Drops were a also a massive issue today, especially from Olamide Zaccheaus. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a massive change in snap count for the WR3 this week against Minnesota.

The Bears had an abysmal special teams week against Cincinnati last week, and though we didn't have a repeat of that this week, I continue to see absolutely nothing positive come from Devin Duvernay being on this roster. A former All-Pro Return Specialist, he has seemingly lost his vision and shows very few shimmers of his old abilities.

Luther Burden continues to show that he can be a dominant factor in this offense and should start seeing more meaningful snaps in place of Zaccheaus. Burden was also a dynamic return specialist at Missouri throughout his college career. It seems that we may be able to kill two birds with one dynamic player.

Many may say the Bears didn't win and rather the Giants lost this game. Would the game have been different if Jaxson Dart didn't exit with a concussion? Would the game have been different if Jameis Winston came into the game rather than Russell Wilson? Would the game have been different if Jamie Gillan didn't shank a punt with less than 3 minutes to go?

I guess we'll never know.

I do know, however, that the Bears are 6-3 for the first time since 2018 and that is something I'll never apologize for.

Let's have a week.

Bear Down. 6-3
